Things have been less than comfortable today. It is disgustingly hot, I have my period and I am hungover. The perfect day to laze about the house and do little more than watch episode after episode of Star Trek, which is precisely what we've been doing. For the past couple of hours I've been reading Intrepid guidebooks and trawling online for information about Japan and generally getting very excited about the wide world out there that I am soon to see some of. Very exciting indeed! I'm starting to get a little annoyed that my temp agencies are not coming through for me and I'm thinking about seeking permanent work, even though I know I'll be leaving pretty soon... I need to get some more money together somehow. For today though, the Boy and I were quite happy to remain at home after our yesterday. We hosted some fairly kick-arse Christmas drinks yesterday afternoon/night. We didn't have the opportunity to enjoy the back deck for our housewarming - too cold in July - but yesterday it was a beautiful sunny day, perhaps a little hot but not too bad. My attitude towards hosting parties has relaxed somewhat in the past couple of years - I used to be mostly petrified of having them, worried that people might not be enjoying themselves the whole time. Now, although I fuss about having the house tidy and crap like that, my tactic is to prepare nibblies, put the music on, grab my beer and enjoy, and that's pretty much what I did. Also, I think we're lucky to have friends who aren't afraid to mingle most of the time. We had a pretty varied group sitting on the back deck, from 18-73 year olds, and somehow it worked. Another strange thing that I noticed was that only a handful had also been to our housewarming in July, but the turn out was just as big... we've made a number of new friends over the previous six months, which is a nice thought. The Boy does not hold his drink so well, and even I managed to get quite drunk (although I think a fatal error was switching from beer to red wine in the later stages...) but it was a long day - we told people to come from 2pm, and people were still turning up as late as 6pm. Around 8ish (I think, wasn't keeping track at this point) the five of us who were left decided to walk down the road for some dinner, settling on wood-fired pizza. I finally got to bed around 1am after a long afternoon of drinking in the Queensland humidity... so somewhat dehydrated today, but doing fine now. It's been a great day to do nothing on. I managed to get a couple of things sorted out too - I don't have to find a tent for Woodford because I'm going to stay with the Lawyer as her tent apparently has plenty of room... we had a pretty good chat actually and things seem to be much better between us, which is good, and I think maybe it would be fun up at Woodford with her, though I must reserve the right to go it alone on occasion :) Also I spoke to Grandad about the possibility of the Boy and I house-sitting for him while he does his trip in February-March. Our lease finishes at the end of January and it crossed our minds that it might be good timing for both of us. As it happens, the same thought had occurred to Grandad, so all around it seems a pretty good plan. He's also happy to store any excess furniture for us aswell. so it seems we're pretty sorted. I imagine that I'll be in Adelaide for some of that time anyway, but it means that Andy's got a two month rent free reprieve before he needs to find a new place. All I need to sort now is someone to take care of the kitty while I'm at Woodford... we're thinking of asking our nice new neighbours, but at a last resort I can pay for someone to take care of him. Now, if only I could get some more work so that I can get together the money to buy a laptop before I go... Hmmm, is it time for more Star Trek yet?
